Just to throw my two cents in...

My first agile experience was a positive one and part of this success was based on having a technical writer available to us for half the day (every morning including our standup). They handled all user and install documentation.

All other documentation was reversed engineered from our tests and a few abstract diagrams to tie it all together. Our UX maintained wireframes and siteflows, but this was to facilitate conversation within the team more than aid the end user.

When it comes to documentation, less is typically more in large companies going agile. I think Alistair Cockburn's approach of focusing on the end game is the best way to understand the right amount of documentation.

Good post on IA. It was reccomended to me following my own post on the subject. I am a usability person too, and love looking at technology through that lense; particularly for learning environments.

:-) sounds complex - I don't suppose the sections have handy titles you can refer to?

According to the IBM style guidelines:

A page is any document that can be accessed by a URL

A pane is a separate area in a split window. A window can be split into two or more panes

A panel is a formatted display of information that can also include entry fields

A tab is a control used to organize distinct sets of information and to provide an easy means of navigating between these sets.

A window is a part of the display screen with visible boundaries in which an application program or information is displayed. (although I would expect this to be self container like a pop-up or wizard)

Um, maybe what you're describing is a panel - got a screen capture? :-)

If you have the answer to the question "When is something a ‘page’ or a ‘tab’ or a ‘pane’ or even a ‘window’?" -- please let me know :D
I'm trying to figure out what the distinct sections within a pane (which is part of a web page) are called called? For simplicity, those are dynamic in number and position as well ... just to make things simple *sigh*

Ah, sounding like a true techie there Cerys! :)

Is it ok if I take a look at your notes sometime?

Found an interesting table of comparison for some of the options out there too if you interested:

Perl makes me nervous. Somehow it seems like an addiction to me; that first quick script seems pretty harmless, but it feels so good to solve odd little problems so quickly, so you come back again... and again... and before you know it you end up with a sea of scripts that look like Befunge! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Befunge)

I've been clean for a few years now...
